TONIGHT: Meeting to Respond to Attacks on Wikileaks and Julian Assange

Paper Tiger Television Dec 13, 2010

Time: Monday Dec. 13, 7:00 PM
Location: 3rd Floor, AJ Muste Building, 339 Lafayette (one block North of Houston)

Come to an organizational meeting to discuss and plan actions to support Julian Assange, Wikileaks and everyone else risking their lives to promote transparency and a free media.

We will be planning actions both online and in the streets to show our outrage at the political and financial attacks on Wikileaks and to bring together the vast majority of Americans who see this as the latest bipartisan attack on our basic freedom of Access to Information.

We call on concerned people of conscience, media makers, grassroots and community activists to see this attack on Wikileaks and Julian Assange as a bipartisan attack on our basic freedom of speech, freedom of assembly, right to transparency and free and equal access to the media and especially the Internet.

We aim to expose and shame the corporate-controlled media and to stop them from spreading propaganda against Wikileaks and Julian Assange. We aim to pressure corporate media to start proactively advocating for Wikileaks and Julian Assange as journalists that are under illegal attacks by the government and financial institutions.

We commend Wikileaks for their careful analysis and filtering of the leaked information in order to not harm anyone or compromise public lives. We seek to expose the lie that Wikileaks is jeopardizing everyday people. We need more Wikileaks, more Julian Assanges, more independent journalists and more government transparency in order to curb the ongoing illegal actions of our government institutions. Not less.

Any legal proceedings against Assange stemming from alleged sexual misconduct and rape need to happen in complete separation from his right to publish leaked material. Using accusations of rape to target Assange’s media activism is an affront to victims of sexual violence everywhere.

We demand the immediate end of legal proceedings against Wikileaks and Julian Assange for their legal right to publish (what should be) public information.
