On the morning of September 5, Attorney General Jeff Sessions announced the end of the Obama-era Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals (DACA) policy. DACA provided temporary work permits and protection from deportation for hundreds of thousands of “Dreamers,” undocumented youth brought to the United States as children. Minutes after the announcement was made, rallies broke out in front of Trump Tower and at Foley Square in Manhattan. The Indypendent’s Elia Gran spoke to Dreamers at Foley Square, where hundreds gathered to show their support for immigrants and DACA.
