Over the past decade The Indypendent has become both an indispensable source of radical news and analysis and a unique place to gain journalism experience. We currently have a variety of volunteer staff positions open on our newspaper edition and our website. Are you a news junkie? Do you follow radical blogs and websites and wish you could share what you are reading with more people? The Indy is seeking a new online editor. Responsibilities include posting original articles from The Indypendent newspaper to our website and curating the best content from dozens of other radical blogs and websites that we also highlight on our site. You will also have the opportunity to work with our social media coordinator to promote our content across the Internet.
We are looking for an additional designer to join our amazing, award-winning layout team.
Production takes place once a month over several nights. You will be working with editors, artists and other designers. Knowledge of In-Design and familiarity with design theory are essential.
From its inception, The Indypendent has been a place where aspiring journalists have developed their skills by hitting the streets to tell the stories that matter to the lives of the 99%. If you love reporting and writing, the Indy is a great place to learn the craft and get good clips. Some prior reporting experience preferred.
Are you a professional photographer with an interest in social justice issues who would like to occasionally work outside the parameters of your regular assignments? Or, are you a talented, up-and-coming photographer who believes a better world is possible and also wants to get some good clips and show the kind of work you can do? If so, the Indy might be the place for you. We offer the chance to do both spot photography to accompany individual articles as well as photo essays that bring to life issues and struggle rarely acknowledged in the corporate media.
If you love movies, are well-versed in film history and aesthetics, have left-leaning politics and like to write, the Indy could be the perfect home for you.
If you love great writing, are familiar with left history and social movements and believe that big ideas can be written about in clear, compelling prose, let’s talk.
