Munich is intended for mass audiences who know nothing about the facts of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict. That is exactly why it will work, and why it will deliver the (propaganda) goods. It reminds me of a line that George Carlin used to use in his comedy routine and went roughly like this: “why do ‘we’ call Israeli terrorists commandos, and we call Palestinian commandos terrorists?” That line never got a laugh the two times I saw him use it with a live audience. The thrust of the S p i e l b e r g movie is simple, fanfare n o t w i t h – s t a n d i n g : Israeli killers are conscientious and humane people, while Palestinians are always – no matter what – killers.
