Why Cities Should Forget About Hosting Amazon HQ2

Peter Rugh Oct 25

Politicians here in New York and across the country have been falling all over themselves to host Amazon’s second North American headquarters — HQ2. Last week, dozens of municipalities submitted bids to the company, hoping to lure the online retail giant to their respective cities.

In this episode of Indystructible, we hear from Jeff Reifman, a tech blogger, former Microsoft employee and a longtime resident of Seattle who says cities should think twice about welcoming Amazon. Our conversation touched on the company’s impact on Jeff’s hometown, gentrification and the class politics of the tech industry in general.
