New York Responds to Minneapolis ICE Shooting of Renee Nicole Good
Hours after the news broke in Minneapolis of ICE killing an unarmed woman in her car, a crowd of roughly 1,000 people rallied in Foley Square Wednesday night to protest the death of Renee Nicole Good, a 37-year-old wife and mother of three.
“ICE, get the hell out of every single city in the country!” Said Hannah Stauss of Hands Off NYC which has trained thousands of volunteers in recent months in non-violent resistance tactics to ICE.
“We will not bow fascism in this country,” added Murad Awawdeh, executive director of the New York Immigration Coalition.
The protesters were joined by elected officials including Public Advocate Jumaane Williams and City Councilmembers Tiffany Cabán, Shahana Hanif and Sandy Nurse. After the speeches, the crowd marched in a circle around 26 Federal Plaza where many immigrants have been detained by ICE while coming for their regular check-ins.
Autonomous anti-ICE groups will lead another protest this evening at Foley Square starting at 5:30.
